To offer the substrate, the ability to attach to different surfaces, adhesives are applied to films, plastics, and papers using the adhesive coating technique. Adhesive coatings can be produced for pressure or heat activation depending on the requirements of the application. While heat-sensitive adhesives need to be heated to activate their adhesion properties, pressure-sensitive adhesives will stick to the surface of the material when pressure is applied.




The actual technique of extrusion coating involves injecting resin directly onto the moving web through a nip made up of a cooling roll with chrome plating and a pressure roller wrapped in rubber at temperatures up to 320°C.




The latter gives the plastic surface the desired polish while also cooling the molten film back into the solid state. The speed ratio and slot gap are proportional to the coating thickness since the web is often run much faster than the speed at which the resin is extruded from the die.




Several end-use industries, including liquid packaging, photography, flexible packaging, mill, and industrial wrappings, transport packaging, sack linings, and others, are served by extrusion coating.




During the extrusion coating process, a heated thermoplastic resin is forced through a horizontal slot-die and onto a moving substrate web. A permanently covered web structure is the end outcome. Similar to extrusion coating, extrusion lamination involves extruding resin between two substrates, where it serves as a bonding agent.




Substrates and melt are pinched at a bonding station inside an extrusion coating and laminating process. This comprises a big roll, a pressure roll, and a water-cooled counter-pressure roll. The right adhesion level can be delivered thanks to the pressure between the rolls and the temperature.
